The Future of Food - Erik Oberholtzer, Robert Puro & Sam Polk

10142017 Furture Of Food

We all must eat. Yet our relationships with food couldn’t be more different. As with political party lines our food identities are dislocated. Kale on the left, processed food on the right. How can we use our food system as a sandbox for broader change? Imagine a future where everyone has access to good food, real food, whole food. A world where our relationship is free of anxiety, misinformation and toxins. This is the future we imagine.

At this week’s METal we will discuss the challenges facing our food future, explore the complexity of the supply chain, common misperceptions and the need for greater honesty and transparency. We will share a model addressing the challenges of food justice in under resourced communities and how one man is leading the charge here in Los Angeles. And we will reveal a project being incubated here in Southern California with the potential for global impact in crop diversity and local food identities.

The three speakers leading this interactive session are Erik Oberholtzer, Co-founder & CEO of Tender Greens who will lead a discussion on food transparency, WHY it matters and where we are going. Plus the bonus moon shot revealed. Robert Puro, Co-founder of Seedstock, a Los Angeles-based social venture fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in sustainable agriculture will share his insights into the current state of our local food system, what’s working, what’s not and where we need to focus. Sam Polk is a former hedge fund trader, the author of For the Love of Money, co-founder & CEO of Everytable, a social enterprise that sells fresh, delicious meals at prices everyone can afford, and the founder and Executive Director of Groceryships, a nonprofit that helps low-income families struggling with food-related illnesses like obesity and diabetes.
