About the Location:
Hiking Solstice Canyon is a must for any day hikers who love the Santa Monica Mountains. It is a wonderful canyon filled with wildlife and good energy. The trail follows a steady running creek for most of the time.We will visit the remains of the old Keller house, designed by architect Paul Williams and built in 1952, the brick structures found harmony with nature by incorporating the creek, waterfall, and landscape into their design. The house must have been a relaxing retreat, until it was burned down by wildfires in 1982. The remaining foundations are now protected by the National Park Service. There are several walls and fireplaces still standing as well as the outline of a pool. Palms surround the ruins, providing the tropical ambiance.
From Santa Monica – Take PCH North to Corral Canyon Rd. Take a right on Corral Canyon Rd. There is a 76 gas station on the corner. Its just past Malibu Seafood and the Winery. Head inland for 1/4 of a mile to the entrance of the park on the left. The parking lot is small. Get there early because it is hard to get a spot, carpooling is also encouraged.
