The Art of Making Funny - David Zucker

10072017 Making Funny

Comedy is not a science, it's an art. Because there are no rules or strict guidelines as to what makes people laugh, comedy can and often is entirely subjective. What's laugh out loud funny to one person might make another cringe. So what is it that makes somethings funny and others not?

Few people are as equipped to answer that question as legendary comedy writer and director David Zucker, who’s 1980 film Airplane! is widely considered to be one of the funniest films of all time. Comedy is often said to be a young man’s sport, but in a career spanning 40 years David Zucker has managed to stay at the top of a genre he helped create.

David S. Zucker is a film director, producer, and screenwriter. With his younger brother Jerry and childhood pal Jim Abrahams, Zucker is credited with creating a new genre of film that hilariously spoofed a wide swath of popular movie genres. In addition to Airplane!, Zucker is know for his work on the Naked Gun franchise, Top Secret, Ruthless People, BASEketball and Scary Movie 3 and 4.
