Green is Good - Dennis Levine

10282017 Green Is Good

“Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works.” This credo by Michael Douglas, as Gordon Gekko in the 1987 film “Wall Street”, seemed to capture the spirit of the decade, with its sharp-suited investment bankers using mountains of debt to buy up sleepy old companies, and with the new cryptocurrency phase of buying cheap virtual coins now piles of billions of digital dollars. . But compared with the past ten years, the greed of the 1980s was as nothing. And whereas the 1980s story was all about greedy Wall Streeters battling against company bosses who wanted to preserve their firm and its traditional values, in the 2000’s a shared greed nurtured a symbiotic relationship between Wall Street and company bosses that made rich men (and, increasingly, women) of them all.

Now that kind of “Greed” is frowned upon, it’s about a collaborative shared community to make a better planet for all - and the Gordon Gekko’s of yesteryear are seeing new opportunities that are a win win without the zero some gain.

At this week’s METal our feature speaker famed Wall Street’er Dennis Levine will share his insights of the past world of “greed” which now is all about “Green” (feeding the planet)

The real life personification of Michael Douglas' character Gordon Gekko is Dennis Levine. Dennis was a prominent player in merger and acquisition business and the Wall Street insider trading scandals of the mid-1980s. As a managing director at Drexel Burnham Lambert, he was at the center of the 1980s financial merger and acquisition boom. His career on Wall Street ended with his indictment for insider trading, making him one of the first of several high-profile insider trading defendants indicted and convicted by U. S. Attorney Rudy Giuliani.
