Writen directly from Norman Seeff:
In my work as a photographer of public personalities across all the major creative disciplines, I went through a creative paradigm shift in which rather than aiming at ‘getting the shot’, I focused on creating authentic experience in the moment and then focused on documenting the experience. The revelation was that if the experience was real, then the images would be real.
Inspired by the deeply revealing interactions with artists and exciting spontaneous performances that were occurring in the Session, in 1975 I brought a film crew into a ‘shoot’ for the first time. Once I saw the dailies, I realized that the profound emotional experiences of the Session could be captured on film, I knew exactly what I was going to do from now on. The documentation continues.
My journey of finding my voice as a photographer/ filmmaker now expanded to the exploration of the creative process from the inside out. What came out of this work are a series of maps, dynamic constructs of how the creative process unfolds, not as explanations of the mystical process of creation, but of the seductive dance that allows the magic to happen.
At this week’s METal, the feature speaker Norman Seeff will show images & videos from these Sessions of many renowned artists and creators in the act of creation.Join Report
