Last year, more than a quarter-million people worldwide died from pancreatic cancer. After losing a close family friend to the disease, Jack Andraka, learned firsthand just how deadly it can be.
That prompted the teenager to create a simple test to detect pancreatic cancer at its earliest stage of development, a breakthrough that could save many lives.
Andraka's pancreatic cancer test is in clinical trials, and he's busy working on an ink jet printer that would print sensors on paper so it would change colors in the presence of different diseases, environmental contaminants and possibly explosives.
He's also working on nanobots, microscopic robots that would use DNA to track down cancer cells.
